Outnumbered Outdated?

I have watched and adored this TV programme since it was first aired in 2007. However, it bothers me why the little girl is called Karen – a name popular in the 1960s and early 70s. The brothers have names more in keeping with the era in Jake and Ben so why not Emily, Abigail or Madison.

I would be more accepting of this if she had been named after a beloved relative or friend. However having seen all 35 episodes - several times over - I have found no reference to this.

It will continue to perplex me.
